My Journey to True Patience
Throughout the years of building my career, I thought I had succeeded in making patience one of my greatest qualities. My patience was tested and proven through many twists and turns, ups and downs along my entrepreneurial journey. No matter how long and hard things got, I diligently worked toward my goals and dreams. If I don’t succeed today, tomorrow, or next year, I will continue until I do.
It wasn’t until 2023, when I underwent a phenomenal year of mental transformation, that I realized what I thought was patience was actually far from “true patience”. While I appreciated the skill I had acquired, I wanted to upgrade it to the next level.
What Is “True Patience”?
True patience means that while working toward my goals, I can enjoy the journey more and not put unnecessary stress or pressure on myself. I don’t need to drive myself to burnout to achieve greatness. Sure, I had a lot of patience before, but I was stressed out and restless while working toward my goals. I made many millions but also almost landed myself in burnout twice.
If I had the opportunity to meet my 25-year-old self and explain this to her, I’m sure she wouldn’t have believed or listened to this piece of wisdom. The foundation wasn’t there yet. She needed to jump through hoops and learn her own lesson first.
If you have the opportunity to read my book, “Would I Come Out Alive?”, you will see my entire entrepreneurial journey laid out there. Once my legal case was resolved in December 2022, I was left with a lingering question within myself—What is my next purpose in life? What is my passion? What do I want to do next?
Many friends and people around me are amazed and shocked that I do not seem to budge and show no signs of stress. Here I am, without a job, income, or a clear purpose in life, and yet I remain calm, cheerful, and happy.
My new understanding of true patience has taught me to take my time to work toward my goal of finding my new purpose without rushing or stressing myself. This does not mean I’m taking it easy or having less ambition.
Every morning, as I wake up or whenever I sense waves of worry and stress creeping in, I ask myself the same question—Do I want to achieve my goals while feeling relaxed and happy, or do I want to attain them burdened with stress and anxiety? Both options demand the same effort and resources. Ultimately, the choice is mine to make!
Without a doubt, I choose the former every time, every day.
Daily Practices for Patience
My daily goal is simple, straightforward, and easy to follow: show up, put in the work, and do my best. I have unwavering faith that opportunities will arise along the way. I trust that I will meet the right people, experience essential events, and see everything seamlessly connect to the opportunities I seek. While I can’t control the individuals or events I encounter on my journey, I do have complete control over my actions, efforts, thoughts, and discipline.
I’ve also stopped worrying about when I’ll reach my destination or discover my new goal and purpose. Instead, I focus on whether I’ve done my best today.
I firmly believe that when I consistently do my best, work hard, and put in the effort every day, great things are bound to come my way. It’s just a matter of time, and for that, I am patient.
The Value of Patience
Patience, in my opinion, is one of the most valuable skills to possess. It extends beyond work to all aspects of life. We need patience not only with our loved ones, such as family and friends, but also with people in the service industry. Though we may not know them well, they undoubtedly deserve our respect. Most importantly, we need patience with ourselves and our personal journeys.
With patience, we don’t easily become annoyed, agitated, or irritated. We understand that there is a timing for everything. Life unfolds on its own schedule, sometimes not aligning with our desires. It’s an inherent part of life that we need to embrace. Sometimes, it unfolds exactly as we envisioned, and many times, it surpasses our expectations in ways we never imagined. But this only happens if we remain patient, persist, and give our best.
In the end, patience isn’t just about waiting; it’s about how we wait and who we become along the way. Embrace patience, and watch as life exceeds your expectations in the most incredible ways
